Kintsugi Repair Services at Gilgamish for Creative Arts
At Gilgamish for Creative Arts, we specialize in the ancient Japanese art of Kintsugi, a method that restores and transforms broken pottery into something even more beautiful. Using traditional Japanese lacquer (Urushi) and various precious metals, our skilled artisans mend ceramic pieces, emphasizing the beauty in imperfections and telling the story of resilience.

The Kintsugi Process
Cleaning & Preparation: We remove any chemical glues and prepare the pottery for repair.
Joining Pieces: Using a blend of natural lacquer and rice glue, the pottery is carefully reassembled. The drying process takes several days under stable conditions.
Filling Cracks: Lacquer mixed with terracotta powder is used to fill cracks. Sanding is repeated until the surface is smooth.
Base Coating: A black lacquer coat is applied and dried multiple times.
Gold Application: Red lacquer is applied, followed by the meticulous sprinkling of pure gold powder, which is then polished with agate for a brilliant finish.
